Puzzle 48 - Node Spurs

Does anyone have any idea what the broken bridges/Spurs on the 1,2,3, and 4 bolded nodes are supposed to convey?

The number 2 node has 3 of them which is confusing since it only can have 2 connections, which suggests these spurs can’t be connected to anything.

I can’t tell if they are fixed starting points, non-connectable points, or something that will help form the solution and should be ignored while solving the grid.

Thanks!

I seem to have solved it while ignoring the spurs however in hindsight they may provide a hint that

you cannot do any non-orthogonal or non-parallel connections. That is, all connections must be either perpendicular or parallel to the other connections.

Hi there!

Spoiler

The bolded nodes are the nodes used in forming the letters, and the spurs indicate the order of the letter (1 spur = letter 1, 2 spurs = second letter, …)

Hope this helps!
